Unbiased Review

Starting with what I believe to be the most important part of any backpack, comfort, the Futura as I will call it for simplicity, excels. The Futura is absolutely one of the most comfortable backpacks I’ve tested in years. The reason for this comes largely down to a lack of reduction. By this I mean the backpack hasn’t been built to be minimalistic, putting away everything except what is absolutely vital.

Compared to similar products, the Aircontact Lite 35 + 10L has both positive and negative qualities. My summer gear is so light, that the weight is a con for me. If your base weight I 15lbs or lighter, there’s no reason to be carrying a 3.4lb backpack. The weight distribution of this Deuter backpack is on point. Meaning you can carry a heavy load and barely notice a strain.

I often used it as a seat during snack breaks and the pack didn’t complain at all and had no dirt on it. I am afraid that women with very narrow hips might find the belt too wide, though. I took in almost all the extra belt, there was very little left to take in even more. As much as I wanted to go ultra-light, it just wasn’t possible at the time (and still isn’t).

Side mesh pockets let you stash water bottles while a front stuff-it pocket expands to accommodate clothing layers or damp items you want to dry out. The top lid is attached with four webbing straps, so it can float upwards if you want to overstuff the main compartment. It can also be removed completely to lighten the backpack if you want to shed some weight. The top lid has two pockets, a large top pocket and a hidden pocket under the lid, which is good for storing a toilet or first aid kit for easy access. This pack’s carrying capacity is truly tremendous – the lid of the pack is expandable and one could easily fit a solid 20L of stuff sacked gear underneath the lid.

The 100-denier high-tenacity pack fabric used throughout withstands significant abuse, yet is lighter than other fabrics, keeping the Speed Lite’s overall weight low. You may be able to stash something slim like a narrow umbrella or the JOBY GorillaPod in the external pocket if you do keep a larger bottle inside, but not much else. So if you’re not comfortable keeping it in the main compartment with your tech, opt for a smaller bottle and stash it on the outside. If you have a larger bottle and aren’t too worried about having in the same place as your laptop or tablet, then slip it in this pocket—it all depends on your needs and preferences.

We all know that having the right backpack is absolutely paramount if we want to come back from our hike in one piece. Stretch Compartment; The stretch compartment is on the inside of the back and is great to store e.g. sweaty/wet clothes. Hip-Belt Side-Mesh Pocket; Good for a small map, compass, small cameras and should fit most sizes of smartphones. The Osprey Stratos is designed with a resilient structure and is tear-resistant, thanks to the blend of nylon fabrics. Annoyed by the lack of quality online outdoors publications willing to uphold high standards of value and ethics, he decided to make the resource he would have wished to read. Deuter UP Sydney Hip BeltAnd further down, you have a waist strap. For us, this belt sits a little higher up than we’d like—it runs across the stomach rather than the hips. It’s essentially just a nylon strap, so rather than help with weight distribution, it mostly just helps keep the bag closer to our body.

As the century turned, it expanded into making tents, backpacks, and more. It continued to refine and develop its products, eventually sponsoring an expedition to the Pamir mountains in Tajikistan in 1928. Today, it offers packs for activities like hiking, cycling, climbing, skiing, and more. Rich in history, Deuter has established a philosophical focus on mountain sports, commitment, pioneering, and responsibility.

The rear entry zipper allows me to open the bag fully to find what I need, fast. Similarly when used as my splitboard touring pack it offers me everything that I need it to deliver and it delivers it with ease while not over complicating features. Apart from a slight issue with the ice axe fixing, which I mention later, I feel that the bag is well made and made to last.
